Jubail Island is this huge 4,000-hectare development squeezed right between Yas and Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi. More than half of it is being left completely untouched to protect the native mangroves.

The whole community is run by LEAD Development and broken up into six different villages. They’re all linked together with boardwalks and these nice green trails, so you can walk or bike pretty much everywhere without jumping in a car. The real star of the show is the Mangrove Park — it’s turned into a proper eco-tourism spot that people actually go out of their way to visit.
They’re bringing in all the luxury stuff you’d expect: a marina, beach club, wellness centres, the works. It is only about 10 minutes from the buzz on Yas Island and maybe 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi. It’s low-density and sustainable.
